Wolfsburg and Chelsea complete the semi-finals of the women’s CL

The footballers from Wolfsburg and Chelsea complete the semifinals of the Champions League. After the 1-0 in the first leg, the Germans were handed a 1-1 in the second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. The next opponent is Arsenal with the two ÖFB team players Manuela Zinsberger and Laura Wienroither. Chelsea knocked out defending champions Olympique Lyon after a VAR penalty at the very last moment and the ensuing penalty shoot-out.

The eight-time champion from France saved himself after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg with a goal by Vanessa Gilles (77th) in extra time, where Sara Däbritz supposedly made everything clear (110th). But after a VAR warning and a minute-long interruption, Maren Mjelde shot the English team into a penalty shoot-out with a penalty (128th minute) to make it 2-1. There Chelsea prevailed 4:3 and now has to deal with FC Barcelona.

Like in 2022, Wolfsburg and Barcelona are in the semi-finals of the “premier class”. Arsenal beat Bayern Munich on Wednesday and reached the semi-finals for the first time in ten years. The English champions Chelsea had only failed in their only attempt up to this point in 2021 in the final against Barcelona.

Alexandra Popp (20th) scored the lead for Wolfsburg in front of 14,367 fans on Thursday, Kadidiatou Diani’s 1-1 lead (30th) wasn’t enough for Paris. The ÖFB international Marina Georgieva watched her team leave the bench.
