Woman Dies After Falling From Motorcycle on San Antonio’s West Side

A woman died Thursday night after falling from the back of a motorcycle on Culebra Road near Tezel Road in San Antonio, Texas. Police reported the incident occurred around midnight. The motorcycle driver fled the scene and has not been apprehended.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.

The incident occurred on a stretch of Culebra Road identified as one of San Antonio’s most dangerous traffic corridors. Data from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City of San Antonio (COSA) shows more than 110 fatal and serious-injury crashes on Culebra Road in the past five years, according to a report published in December 2025.

Joe Conger, public relations manager for San Antonio’s Transportation Department, stated in December that the city is concentrating efforts on “high-injury networks” like Culebra Road to mitigate crashes. The city is focusing on both driver and pedestrian behavior, attempting to promote safety through public messaging.

Culebra Road, a major thoroughfare on the city’s West Side, stretches over 15 miles and intersects with numerous businesses, apartments and residential neighborhoods. The high volume of traffic, combined with frequent driveways and pedestrian crossings, contributes to the area’s dangerous conditions.

Construction is planned to begin in fall 2026 to widen FM 471 between Culebra Road and Bandera Road, according to TxDOT. The project will expand the roadway from two to four lanes, add a raised median or center turn lane, and include latest bike lanes, sidewalks, and upgraded traffic signals. This construction is intended to address congestion and improve safety along the corridor.

Police are currently investigating the hit-and-run incident and seeking information regarding the driver who fled the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.
