A 20-year-old fell from a balcony in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Sunday night and died. According to police spokeswoman Barbara Gass, the emergency services were called at 1.40 a.m. to an apartment building not far from the center of the district. The 20-year-old apparently tried to climb from one balcony to another on the fourth floor and fell. The accident may have happened during a game night with friends.
The Viennese professional rescue service tried to provide first aid, but in vain. The woman died at the scene of the accident. Investigations revealed that the 20-year-old was with three friends – another 20-year-old and two young men aged 20 and 21 – in the apartment that one of the two men had rented. The four played hide and seek, and the 20-year-old must have had the idea of climbing onto the neighboring balcony. Barefoot, she lost her footing and fell.
The northern branch of the State Criminal Police Office took over further investigations. The four friends may have consumed alcohol, but it should not have been in large quantities. The executive also notified the crisis intervention team, which was caring for the shocked friends.
