The time will come next year. The statutory retirement age for women is being brought into line with that of men in relatively rapid steps. Equality, yay! Just as the Constitutional Court ordered more than thirty years ago. Back in 1992, Johanna Dohnal was Minister for Women, a so-called grand coalition of SPÖ and ÖVP was in power, and Franz Vranitzky was Chancellor. And it wasn’t just the Ministry of Women’s Affairs that hoped that in more than three decades, when women, like men, enter their well-deserved retirement at the age of 65, there would be equal rights and equal opportunities for everyone.
