Work Permit Card instead of Flexi Visa | Work permit card instead of flexi visa in Bahrain

Manama: The authorities have clarified the details of the new system that will be introduced in Bahrain instead of Flexi Visa. A work permit card will be issued to expatriates who are legally eligible to work. Holders of this card can then work in Bahrain.

Minister of Labor Jameel bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, LMRA CEO Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer and Bahrain Chamber Chairman Samir Naas announced in a press conference that eligible workers should register at the Labor Registration Center.

Registration will be facilitated online and at the Labor Registration Center. Complete details of registered workers will be kept here. This is aimed at comprehensive data collection of expatriate workers.

Newly introduced work permit card

A special work permit card will be issued to registered workers. It will contain the photograph, occupation, name and CPR number of the worker. Registration and other procedures will start soon.

The LMRA had earlier informed that those currently working on flexi visas and residing without sufficient documents should register at the Labor Registration Center. The labor minister said that the system is being implemented in such a way as to protect the rights of workers and employers. All professions will impose certain standards. Details regarding this will be released soon. This is aimed at ensuring that the best quality workers come to the country.

Bahrain Chamber Chairman Samir Naas said that the business community has been demanding the abolition of flexi visa for a long time. He added that the new system will provide equal opportunities for natives and non-residents. He also suggested that those who come to the country seeking employment on a visit visa should leave the country and come back if they get a job.

LMRA CEO Noof Abdul Rehman Jamsheer said that the inspection to detect illegal workers has been strengthened. In recent days, extensive inspections were conducted in various parts of the country. Legal action including deportation will be taken against those caught.

The authorities are aiming for a radical reform in the labor sector of the country. Steps are being taken to create a better work environment by bringing in only sufficiently qualified and efficient workers.
