We explain where to apply for a work permit for minors and what are the conditions that must be met to receive this authorization from the Lopnna.

In Venezuela, it is possible to request a work permit for minors that allows them legally from the age of 14.

The resource is called the Right to Protection in Labor Matters and is established in the Organic Law for the Protection of Boys, Girls and Adolescents (Lopnna).

Work permit for minors, regulations and requirements
The regulations were approved by Lopnna in 1998, but came into force in April 2000. In total, there are 22 articles dedicated to guarantees and statutes so that an adolescent can work regularly in the country.

Requirements

There are several requirements that a teenager must meet in order for the Lopnna to approve the permit.

The first is that the applicant cannot abandon his studies to dedicate himself exclusively to a job.

The legislation promotes the right to education, therefore it also establishes as a duty that the person can make a balance between work and studies.

The permit dictates working hours of a maximum of 6 hours a day and 30 hours a week.

The legislation also stipulates that the adolescent must be guaranteed the benefits granted by law, such as vacations, among other labor rights.

Likewise, the applicant cannot opt for jobs that put their physical health at risk or are harmful to the development of their health.

It has to be a job in which the adolescent is not exposed to labor exploitation, that it is not forced employment (or that involves a lot of use of force) and that schooling is not lost”.

What are the requirements to apply for a work permit for minors?

To make the request, the adolescent can go to the Council for the Protection of Boys, Girls and Adolescents in the area closest to where they reside.

Although a minor can go to manage the process independently, it is necessary that a relative or guardian authorize or have knowledge of the process so that it can be approved.

Article 96 of the Lopnna establishes that the applicant must fill out a registration form in which it is required to specify data such as: personal information, area of residence, level of education and educational institution.

The cost of this procedure, like any management in the Protection Councils, is free.

The lawyer refers that although the permit can be granted from the age of 14, there are exceptions in which it is possible to evaluate the allocation of the resource to children and adolescents who do not meet this requirement.
