Breast cancer: For recognition of exposure to certain occupational risks – CFDT

Back

The CFDT today asked ANSES (National Health Security Agency) to conduct a study on the links between breast cancer and exposure to certain occupational risks. This referral is a preliminary step to the creation of tables of occupational diseases including breast cancer as a pathology. These tables should allow better recognition of these work-related health problems.

The desire of the CFDT is to fight once morest the invisibility of exposure to certain professional risks among women, as highlighted in the recent Senate report on “ Health of women at work, invisible ills “. Of the more than 61,000 new breast cancers diagnosed annually in France, several studies show that a portion of these cancers might be linked to occupational exposure. Three factors are particularly identified: night work, ionizing rays and chemicals. The workers concerned include those in the health, aviation and nuclear sectors. Today, less than ten breast cancers have been recognized in France by the “complementary” recognition system, in particular thanks to the support of victims by CFDT activists.

By contacting ANSES, the CFDT is also demanding better knowledge of the occupational factors that can cause breast cancer to improve prevention measures, and raise awareness among employers and workers of this risk.
