More than 30 workers from Cienfuegos were decorated this Thursday at the Naval Historical Museum ―located in the capital city―, for their extraordinary labor merits, on the eve of another May Day commemoration.

By presidential decree, the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) imposed the Lázaro Peña Order of II Degree on seven workers from the Pearl of the South, most of them linked to the Public Health sector in the territory.

The prestigious doctor Raúl Nieto Cabrera, clinical coordinator of the Provincial Center for Medical Emergencies, was among those honored with the high distinction, after almost 35 years of practice. “It is an enormous satisfaction to reach this moment, when the results of work for so long are recognized. Now all that remains is to continue, dedicated to the task of saving lives in a context of many challenges”, he affirmed.

Another 20 comrades, affiliated with various unions in the south-central region of the country, received the Lázaro Peña III Degree Order for similar virtues. Among them, highlighted Dr. Arelys Falcón Hernández, rector of the University of Medical Sciences in Cienfuegos.

“I feel happy and proud to be the recipient of this award. The commitment is the same as always: with Cuba and the revolutionary project,” said Falcón Hernández, who, of his three decades of work, has dedicated the last five years to directing the teacher training of health personnel in the province.

“That,” he said, “has been a challenge, due to the growth of our house of higher studies in the number of careers and the expansion towards other teaching modalities, as well as the experience of channeling institutional accreditation processes.”

The act also led to the delivery of the Jesús Menéndez Medal to another group of workers. Rafael Cáceres Valladares, main specialist of the Provincial Council of Plastic Arts, was one of the distinguished ones. The engraver and cartoonist dedicated the recognition to creators with whom he shared much of his work, such as Francisco Rodríguez Marcel, Celestino Rodríguez, José García Montebravo and Frank Iraola.

The imposition of these decorations was attended by Mayté Yera Santana, general secretary of the CTC in Cienfuegos, accompanied by political and governmental authorities of the territory.
