World Book and Copyright Day in the Nakło library | Nakielski Courier

On the occasion of this year’s World Book and Copyright Day, which falls on April 23, a surprise awaits readers at the Book Lending Library for Adults in Nakło nad Notecią.

On this special day, according to tradition, the first readers were welcomed with a symbolic rose and a book. World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated to promote reading, editing and copyright. The holiday was born in Catalonia, and its date of April 23 is symbolic for world literature, because on this day the outstanding poets Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and the Peruvian historian Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died.

According to a long tradition in Catalonia, women were given red roses on this day, symbolizing the blood of the one defeated by Saint. George the dragon.

Over time, women began to reciprocate men with gifts of books. World Book and Copyright Day was established in 1995 by UNESCO.

It is one of the most important holidays in the calendar year for many libraries, cultural institutions, publishing houses, educational institutions and bookstores, as well as book enthusiasts.

We would like to thank the readers for fulfilling the mission of promoting reading.
