Strong and changeable winds led to the cancellation of the men’s World Cup ski jumping in Szczyrk on Wednesday evening. After 40 of 50 athletes and numerous interim interruptions, the jury decided not to continue the World Cup premiere on the Polish normal hill. According to FIS race director Sandro Pertile, the competition will not be held in Zakopane, where a team and a large hill individual competition are scheduled for the weekend.

In Zakopane, Stefan Kraft wants to take his 109th World Cup podium place. With this, the Salzburg player would become the sole record man ahead of Janne Ahonen. “Zakopane is a cool place, the atmosphere will be bombastic, we’re looking forward to that,” said Kraft. The six-time season winner welcomed the demolition in Szczyrk. “That was certainly the right decision. Maybe it could have been done earlier, it was very changeable, there was no longer any security.”

Manuel Fettner, who was no longer left behind with starting number 41, also agreed with the jury’s decision. “It was quite dangerous because it was simply unpredictable,” said the veteran.
