World Handwashing Day in Paraguay: they call to maintain good hygiene practices

Asunción, IP Agency.- In order to promote the importance of hygiene as a measure for disease prevention, the commemorative event for World Handwashing Day was held this Monday in the Health Park of the Social Security Institute.

The activity was organized by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, the IPS and the Pan American Health Organization.

The Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care and Social Welfare, Santiago García, highlighted the reduction of gastrointestinal diseases during the covid-19 pandemic, thanks to hygiene measures. Likewise, he urged adults to maintain these practices and to set an example for the younger ones.

The opening of the event was led by Ana Laura Núñez, director of the National Program for Prevention, Surveillance and Control of Hospital Infections of the Ministry of Health, who later invited Vice Minister García to demonstrate how to properly wash hands, a procedure that must be last at least 20 seconds.

Marcelo Korc, PAHO representative in Paraguay, and Gustavo González, IPS health manager, also participated.

After the event, the authorities took a walk through the park.

World Hand Hygiene Day, celebrated on May 5, is an initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) that seeks to maintain a global profile on the importance of hand hygiene in health care.

Millions of cases of antibiotic-resistant infections occur worldwide every year. Hand hygiene is crucial to stopping the spread of dangerous pathogens.
