World Health Organization’s Evacuation Mission in Gaza: Updates and Efforts

The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed on Friday that 22 patients and 19 companions had been evacuated from Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in northern Gaza to the southern Strip.

The organization’s director said that the transfer was carried out in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and the Palestinian Red Crescent.

He stated in a tweet via:X“The patients suffer from wounds resulting from gunfire, in addition to the amputation of their organs and burns,” noting that they are currently in the European Hospital in Gaza, “which administers medical care to twice the number of patients it was designed for.”

He added, “Two days ago, the World Health Organization led a joint international mission to transfer 151 patients, their relatives, and health care workers from Al-Shifa Hospital,” stressing that this mission “was carried out under heavy fighting, following specific requests from the health authorities and those responsible for hospitals in Gaza.”

Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed that “to keep up with the health needs in Gaza, more support must be provided, and most importantly of all, a stable truce.”

For its part, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed, on Friday, the evacuation of 70 wounded and sick people, as well as a number of medical staff and those accompanying the wounded, from the National Baptist Hospital, according to what was reported by the Palestinian News Agency.Loyalty“.

She said in a statement that Red Crescent ambulances, accompanied by the United Nations, set off in front of the hospital towards the southern Gaza Strip.
