They had reasons to celebrate in every possible corner.
The victory this Tuesday of the Moroccan team over that of Spain by penalties in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 precipitated massive celebrations in cities of Europe and Arab countries.
Spain, world champion in South Africa in 2010, could not beat its neighbor to the south, which has been one of the great surprises of this tournament.
It is the first time in history that Morocco has reached the quarterfinals. Until now, the most he had advanced was to the eighths in Mexico 1970.
They will now face Portugal on Saturday for a place in the semifinal.
This historic triumph was cheered by Moroccans and supporters of that team in several cities in Europe, especially in Spain, where the community of that country is the largest among immigrants.
There were also festivities in Paris, Milan, Brussels and Amsterdam.
Likewise, in Arab countries they felt the victory as their own and there were celebrations. It happened in places like Gaza, Tripoli, Doha itself, the capital of Qatar, and, of course, in Morocco.
