World Trade Organization Parliamentary Conference Hosted by Federal National Council: Mobilizing Global Trade Support

With the aim of mobilizing parliamentary action to support and promote global trade, the Federal National Council, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament, will host the Abu Dhabi session of the World Trade Organization Parliamentary Conference accompanying the organization’s thirteenth Ministerial Conference, next Sunday, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The Federal National Council, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament, will host the Abu Dhabi session of the World Trade Organization Parliamentary Conference accompanying the organization’s thirteenth Ministerial Conference, next Sunday, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, with the aim of mobilizing parliamentary action to support and promote global trade that benefits Peoples and countries of the world.

His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, explained that the UAE’s hosting of the parliamentary conference accompanying the Thirteenth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization comes as an embodiment of the existing relationship of cooperation and partnership between the Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and a continuation of the successes of the UAE’s parliamentary diplomacy, during its participation in international parliamentary activities. Hosting is in line with the reputation and status that the UAE enjoys through its membership in the World Trade Organization, as a major player in the global multilateral trading system, and a culmination of the efforts and status of the UAE as a major gateway to global trade and investment.

His Excellency pointed out that the parliamentary conferences of the World Trade Organization are usually held on the sidelines of the ministerial conferences of the World Trade Organization, and he added that organizing the parliamentary conference comes within the objectives of the parliamentary diplomacy of the Federal National Council, which aims to strengthen effective partnership relations with regional and international parliamentary unions and institutions, and invest in the role These institutions are important in achieving development for the countries and peoples of the world and discussing regional and international issues, stressing the importance of the role that parliaments play in strengthening relations between the peoples of the world, and their contribution to promoting peace, stability, tolerance and achieving sustainable development goals to ensure a better future for humanity.

The parliamentary conference will be preceded by the 53rd session of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization, next Saturday, with the participation of His Excellency Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, member of the committee and rapporteur of the conference’s outcomes. The session will discuss the final document of the conference.

The agenda of the Abu Dhabi session of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization includes speeches at the opening session by His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council and representative of the President of the European Parliament, His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and Athalia. Lesiba Molokome, President of the General Council of the World Trade Organization.

An interactive dialogue will be held with senior negotiators and officials at the World Trade Organization, entitled “Abu Dhabi and Beyond: Shaping and Strengthening a Multilateral Trading System that Serves All,” and a session will be held to present reports and interactive discussions on the topic “Trade and Climate Change: A Win-Win Interaction for All,” and the topic “Digital Trade in… The Era of Flexible Economies” and the adoption of the final document of the conference.
