Ukraine showcased the first drone-only military parade of its kind on August 24, rolling uncrewed ground vehicles and floating surface drones through Kyiv to mark Independence Day, while American defense contractor Anduril rolled out its first autonomous “Fury” drone at a Pickaway County production line in Ohio.
Kyiv’s Independence Day Parade Deploys Uncrewed Sea and Land Systems
Ukraine’s Independence Day celebration on August 24 replaced traditional columns of troops and heavy armor with a drone-only parade that displayed operational military capabilities. Uncrewed ground vehicles drove in tight formation through Kyiv’s streets, while quadcopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and interceptor drones filled the airspace overhead.
The parade included an impressive display of naval drones, consisting of a mixed flotilla of uncrewed surface vessels dashing along the river. These platforms featured several different models from multiple manufacturers, serving with different branches of the armed forces.
Advanced Surface Drones and New Interceptor Capabilities
Prominently, Magura V7 uncrewed surface vessels displayed the Sea Dragon air defense system. The Magura was the original Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessel with the original V1 prototype tested in the summer of 2022, and the V7, built by Uforce, represents four years of rapid development. The Sea Dragon system can mount both the American AIM-9M Sidewinder and Soviet AA-11 Archer missiles, with Archers carried in the parade.
Another type displaying Sea Dragon, but this time with Sidewinders, was the Sargan uncrewed surface vessel. Additionally, another Sargan displayed four hangars for quadcopter drones, and another showed the combination of 4 x “Grad122mm rockets and an electromagnetic warfare suit. The Sargan, also known as Seawolf, has been associated with the Navy. Additionally, several
Sea Baby” uncrewed surface vessels were also present and associated with the Security Service. The ones shown are recent models and appeared to be armed with ram charges, while other Sea Baby units not shown at the parade have been observed with remote weapon stations, Grad rockets, and the Sea Dragon air defense system.
The other identifiable uncrewed surface vessel in footage shared by the President’s Office was a new Magura named MV11, designed to carry a large battery of interceptor drones to likely fulfill an offshore air defense role. The systems shown reflect a growing maturity and confidence backed up by combat experience over the past four years.
Anduril Unveils the First Autonomous Fury Drone in Ohio
While Ukrainian authorities demonstrated frontline robotic fleets, defense contractor Anduril marked a parallel milestone in domestic manufacturing. The military drone producer celebrated the production of its first autonomous “Fury” drone at its Arsenal-1 facility in Pickaway County on Monday, July 27, 2026. The company took just 18 months from announcing its intention to build the first structure on its 500-acre site near Rickenbacker Airport to getting the first Fury drone off the production line.
The Fury is designed to be a robotic wingman that can scout ahead in hostile airspace for manned aircraft and fire missiles at targets. The military contractor hopes to produce 150 of the unmanned, F-16-like drones every year at the facility.
Manufacturing Pace and Regional Economic Investments
Anduril cofounder Matt Grimm stated during the event, Today we intend to write the next chapter of flight, unmanned flight and autonomous air power, right here in Ohio. And we have no plans to do this slowly or by the old playbook.
Playing off Ohio’s moniker as the Birthplace of Aviation
, the drone’s rudder was marked with the state nickname and the Ohio flag.
The Arsenal-1 facility received a state record $310 million grant from JobsOhio and is expected to create 4,000 jobs by 2035, when the facility is completed. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine spoke at the facility on July 27, 2026, and told reporters that Ohio should now be known as the aerospace capital of the world.
DeWine stated, (The) Wright Brothers started all of this in Ohio, and the Fury is being built in Ohio. And we're gonna see so many other products that are going to be built right here in Pickaway County.
Grimm framed a slower, “incrementalapproach as detrimental, noting,
That gave us low-rate production, not mass manufacturing and this all happened while threats to our country have only accelerated, especially as evidenced in recent conflicts. Arsenal exists here to change that.” Pickaway County Commissioner Jay Wippel added that the county spent 20 years before Anduril’s arrival preparing sites for future manufacturing investments so that local students would not have to leave home to find a good job.
