Pirelli Unveils New Tyre Solution for Misano WorldSBK Round

The Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” is set to feature a new tyre solution.Pirelli has introduced a new SCQ development tyre for the Motul Fim Superbike world Championship teams. This new tyre aims to enhance performance and consistency, alongside a development supersoft rear tyre also part of the allocation.

Innovative SCQ Tyre: Enhanced Structure for Peak Performance

The E0479 SCQ tyre represents Pirelli’s latest extrasoft option, developed in response to rider feedback. While maintaining the same compound as the standard SCQ, this new tyre incorporates an innovative structure. This design aims to increase consistency, improve the contact patch, and enhance stability, ultimately delivering greater grip and higher peak performance. Its use is restricted to the Tissot Superpole session and Tissot Superpole Race.

Alongside the SCQ, the E0126 development supersoft rear tyre is also available, featuring a new structure compared to the standard SCX. The SC0 soft tyre serves as the only standard solution available for the rear.

Front Tyre Options: Standard solutions Prioritized

Pirelli has opted to provide only standard front tyre solutions for this round. The softest available front tyre is the SC1 medium, widely used throughout the season due to its versatility across various circuits. the harder option, the SC2 hard, offers superior mechanical resistance compared to the SC1 medium and provides enhanced protection against wear.

World Supersport Tyres: Balancing Front and Rear Choices

For the WorldSSP field, Pirelli has selected standard solutions for both front and rear, offering two choices for each.At the rear, the softest option is the SCX supersoft, identical in compound to the standard SCX used in WorldSBK, alongside the standard SC0 soft. For the front, riders can choose between the SC1 medium and SC2 hard, with the SC1 being the more commonly used option, similar to WorldSBK.

Pirelli’s Outlook: maximizing Grip and Stability

Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli’s Motorcycle Racing Director, commented on the tyre allocation. “Following the introduction of the new soft E0125 specification at Portimão and the E0126 development supersoft used at Assen and Cremona, we continue our development work with the new E0479 specification. This new solution has been designed to offer a larger footprint, greater grip and stability, and consistent performance. The results obtained by E0125 and E0126 have been very encouraging, and we hope that E0479 will also be positively received.”

“This solution aims to maximize performance on the flying lap while maintaining high levels even over the 10-lap Superpole Race distance. If conditions permit, we may also see the E0126 supersoft in action at Misano to gather further useful data.”

Tyre Technology in WorldSBK: A constant Evolution

Tyre technology plays a pivotal role in the competitive landscape of WorldSBK. Teams and riders rely heavily on the performance and durability of their tyres to achieve optimal results. Pirelli, as the sole tyre supplier for the championship, continually innovates and refines its tyre offerings to meet the evolving demands of the sport. Data from the 2023 season indicates that tyre choice can significantly impact race outcomes, with certain compounds proving more effective in specific track conditions.

The introduction of new tyre specifications, like the E0479 SCQ, is a testament to Pirelli’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of tyre technology. These advancements not only enhance performance but also contribute to rider safety by providing improved grip and stability.
