Wrestlers abstain; Dissatisfied with the government

New Delhi: The Union Sports Ministry is displeased with the absence of intermittent wrestlers from international championships. Actors like Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Deepak Punia, Anshu Malik and Sangeeta More are in the protest. They boycotted the United World Wrestling Ranking Championships held in Zagreb and Alexandria.

This is the continuation of the protest of the players who staged a dharna in Delhi once morest the President of the Wrestling Federation, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. Brijbhushan has now been replaced by a committee headed by Mary Kom. This committee is also looking into the allegations once morest Brijbhushan. The sports ministry has given two more weeks to submit its report. Meanwhile, the Asian Championship to be held in Delhi, United World Wrestling has been shifted to Astana, Kazakhstan. An official of the ministry said that despite the acceptance of the demand, there is no point in continuing the protest and the players should participate in international competitions.
