The Ladies Open final will pit Olga Danilovic (WTA 124) against Petra Martic (85) from 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Serb and the Croatian will try to pick up the second title of their respective careers.
Olga Danilovic, who came from the qualifications, and Petra Martic thwarted the odds in the semi-finals. The two players who had closed the door to Simona Waltert and Belinda Bencic qualified somewhat to everyone’s surprise. Olga Danilovic won 6-3 6-2 ahead of Russian Anastasia Potapova (79) while Petra Martic beat 6-4 1-6 6-3 Caroline Garcia (48). Already eliminated last year at this stage of the competition, the Lyonnaise can regret her slump in the 3rd set with four games in a row lost which placed her in a very complicated situation.
Only one confrontation in the past
First player born after January 1, 2000 to have won a title – in Moscow in 2018 -, Olga Danilovic finds herself in the final after dismissing a match point during her second round against Russian Anna Kalinskaya. As for Petra Martic (31), who nevertheless remained on three defeats in three games against Caroline Garcia, she had triumphed three years ago in Istanbul. The two finalists have only been opposed once in the past, in 2021 in the 1st round of the Australian Open, Victory had smiled on Olga Danilovic.
