Xbox is recovering after its second outage this weekend

Xbox users who were hoping to enjoy some solid game time over the weekend were handicapped on Saturday, after a nearly nine-hour outage.

Microsoft released a tweet around 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, acknowledging that some users were unable to purchase and play games or join Cloud Gaming sessions.

The service Downdetector also recorded a surprising spike in bug reports around that time.

Players could have switched to physical discs (if they had a console with a disc slot) or, in theory, they could play offline.

But as The Verge reports, even offline play wasn’t working for some users.

Microsoft released an update around 1 a.m. ET on Sunday, saying users should no longer experience these issues, although Downdetector notes a string of new complaints that persist into Sunday morning.

Adding to the frustration of gamers, this was actually the second Xbox network outage so far this weekend.

Xbox experienced a similar outage that began late Friday afternoon and extended into Saturday morning, with Microsoft also warning of problems launching and purchasing games and starting Cloud Gaming sessions.

Additionally, Microsoft admitted that some users were also struggling during the previous outage to access streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+.

Microsoft claimed that it completely resolved the Friday outage at 1 p.m. on Saturday, about three hours before user complaints began to rise again.
