We started yet another duel between advanced cell phones that are not top of the line, despite many features of the higher segment. In other words, Xiaomi 13 Lite and Edge 40 value above-average features, without charging as much as flagships.

Right away, we already see that these models are well aligned with the best that each brand has to offer in the current market. Both use a straighter and more discreet camera block, with the same color as the cover. The difference is that Xiaomi has a circle inside to house two of the three cameras, while Motorola prefers to leave the lens more “free” inside the module.

If there is a point where Xiaomi saved money, it was in sound. The Chinese left only a mono speaker in its premium intermediary, while Motorola takes the opportunity to place a stereo system. In this case, outgoing calls become a secondary channel, to enhance the overall immersive experience.

The Xiaomi 13 Lite still comes out of the box with Android 12 pre-installed. The Edge 40 already brings Android 13 as a native operating system. Even with the manufacturers promising two software updates, the Motorola model will have a slightly greater longevity than the rival.
The mobile network of both is compatible with 5G technology, to offer fast internet anywhere. Their interface also offers smooth navigation due to the high refresh rates they provide.
Moving on to the features, the Chinese stands out for offering virtual RAM to expand the memory and the presence of the heart rate sensor integrated into the biometric reader. The Xiaomi 13 Lite comes equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 platform. The Edge 40 is powered by the Dimensity 8020. Both with 8GB of RAM, which model do we have the best performance on? Our tests indicated a higher speed on the Motorola device. He was much better at multitasking and finished both rounds with a lead of around 38 seconds.
Benchmarks confirm the Edge’s victory here, but without such a huge distance. This is explicit when seeing that his score was only 20% higher on AnTuTu and recorded an even smaller difference on Geekbench. Xiaomi has inserted a 4,500 mAh battery into its smartphone, slightly larger than the 4,400 mAh capacity of the unit used by Motorola. However, in practice, the distance proved to be wider. The 13 Lite clocked in at 27.5 hours of battery life in our standardized tests, which means nearly four hours longer than the Edge 40.
Moving on to charging, both the 67 W adapter sent by the Chinese company and the 68 W accessory from Motorola take around 40 minutes to complete the entire process.

These cell phones have sets of cameras led by a main 50 MP and an ultrawide lens, either the 8 MP of the 13 Lite, or the 13 MP of the Edge. However, the Chinese brings a 2 MP macro sensor more. How will the images look in practice?
With the main one, both have good dynamic range and decent colors. Even so, Xiaomi lacks sharpness compared to the competitor. At night, Motorola also does a better job of maintaining good contrast and not distorting colors.
