Xiaomi collected 50 thousand orders for the SU7 electric car in just 27 minutes of sales

Yesterday, sales of SU7, Xiaomi’s first electric car, started in China. Prices for the new product start at 215,900 yuan ($29,900), which is noticeably cheaper than the basic version of the Tesla Model 3, which in China sells for 245,900 yuan ($34,000). Xiaomi reported that in the first 27 minutes from the start of sales, it received 50,000 orders for its electric car, reports Car News China.

Four minutes after the start of sales, the manufacturer received 10 thousand orders. Seven minutes later, the number of orders exceeded 20 thousand, and after 27 minutes – 50 thousand.

Xiaomi held a conference in Beijing at which it presented three versions of the SU7 with different power plants. The company’s general director, Lei Jun, spoke on stage for about two hours about the new car and its advantages. More than 2 million people watched the live broadcast of the presentation on WeChat. The event was attended by the CEOs and founders of three Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers – Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto.

Buyers can purchase the Xiaomi SU7 electric car in Standard, Pro or Max trim levels. They differ in battery capacity, power plants, and the availability of the ADAS driver assistance system. The first two versions offer rear-wheel drive. The full version is available in the older SU7 Max configuration with two electric motors. Below are the key characteristics of all three versions of Xiaomi’s first electric car.

Xiaomi SU7 Standard:

  • power reserve – 700 km according to the CLTC method;
  • traction battery capacity – 73.6 kWh (type LFP, manufactured by BYD);
  • architecture – 400 V (486 V);
  • the power reserve of 350 km is replenished in 15 minutes of charging;
  • rear-wheel drive, power – 220 kW (295 hp), torque – 400 N∙m, single-engine;
  • driver assistance system – Xiaomi Pilot Pro ADAS;
  • price – 215,900 yuan ($29,900).

Xiaomi SU7 Pro:

  • power reserve – 830 km according to the CLTC method;
  • traction battery capacity – 94.3 kWh (CATL Shenxing, type LFP);
  • architecture – 400 V (486 V);
  • the power reserve of 350 km is replenished in 15 minutes of charging;
  • rear-wheel drive, power – 220 kW (295 hp), torque – 400 N∙m, single-engine;
  • price – 245,900 yuan ($34,000).

Xiaomi SU7 Max:

  • power reserve – 800 km according to the CLTC method;
  • traction battery capacity – 101 kWh (CATL Qilin, type NMC);
  • architecture – 800 V (871 V);
  • all-wheel drive, power – 495 kW (663 hp), twin-engine;
  • acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, top speed – 265 km/h;
  • price – 299,900 yuan ($41,500).

For comparison, the base version of the Tesla Model 3 is offered for 245,900 yuan ($34,000), which is $4,100 more expensive. It has a range of 606 km, is equipped with 60 kWh CATL batteries, rear-wheel drive and one electric motor with a power of 194 kW (260 hp). The length, width and height of the Xiaomi SU7 are 4997, 1963 and 1445 mm, the wheelbase is 3000 mm. Tesla Model 3 has 4720, 1848, 1442 and 2875 mm, respectively.

In China, Xiaomi SU7, in addition to Tesla Model 3, will have to compete with models such as BYD Seal, BYD Han, Deepal SL03, Xpeng P7i, Nio ET5 and a dozen other electric vehicles in the price range from 200 to 300 thousand yuan.
