This November 19, 2020, Xiaomi began to deploy update of MIUI 12, its in-house overlay based on Android 10 or 11 depending on the version. This update is mainly intended to improve the performance of the sensors and the Photo application of its latest flagships such as the Wed 10, the Mi 10 Pro or the Redmi K30 Pro.

With this patch, the Mi Camera application benefits from several new modes, such as “Shuttle Crowd” mode for the crowd, or even “Neon Night Curtain” mode to add lighting effects to your shots. Only, it turns out that the update is riddled with bugs and causes a lot of stability issues on the devices mentioned above. The situation is so critical that Xiaomi recommends not downloading the update for now.

The damage is numerous: inability to connect to the Internet from a second SIM card, insensitivity of the touch screen during recharging, drastic drop in the number of frames per second in game, higher energy consumption, significant delay in taking screenshots, overheating… For now, you will have understood it, it is better not to download the MIUI 12 update and wait for the deployment of a patch that may be “healthier”.

The stable version of MIUI 12 is rolling out gradually

As a reminder, Xiaomi presented the international version of MIUI 12 this November 4, 2020. The overlay is based on Android 10 or 11 depending on the version and improves many aspects of the user interface. The manufacturer had already unveiled the Chinese version in May 2020. The Chinese company is gradually deploying the stable version of MIUI 12 on around fifty Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones.

Among the major contributions of this new custom ROM, we note the integration of new transitions between screens and applications via 3D animations managed by two engines. The famous cosmic wallpapers are also making their debut on MIUI 12. We must add to this a system of permissions and sharing more respectful of privacy, a reworked multitasking mode, the addition of a new energy saving mode or the establishment of a drawer of applications. Finally, MIUI 12 integrates dark mode throughout the system.
