Xizang Autonomous Region’s Foreign Trade Surges by 138.3% in 2023

LHASSA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — Southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region saw its foreign trade in goods increase 138.3 percent year-on-year to nearly 10.98 billion yuan (approximately $1.54 billion) in 2023, local authorities said Friday.

Last year, Xizang had trade with 175 countries and regions. Its imports and exports to Nepal, its main trading partner, amounted to regarding 2.77 billion yuan, an increase of 77.2 percent from the previous year, according to customs in Lhasa, the regional capital.

Xizang’s exports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 59.5 percent year-on-year in 2023, and its imports of high-tech products and bulk goods also recorded strong growth. END
