Yahoo! JAPAN services ceased operation in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom on April 6, 2022, the company announced. The move, attributed to difficulties in maintaining a continuous service environment in those regions, impacts access to a range of Yahoo! JAPAN offerings.
While the core services have been discontinued for users in the EEA and UK, some Yahoo! JAPAN Mail functions remain restrictedly available. Details regarding these limitations are accessible only in Japanese, according to the company’s statement.
Users accessing Yahoo! JAPAN services from within Japan are unaffected by the change. The company emphasized that its services remain fully accessible when accessed from Japanese territory.
The decision to withdraw services from the EEA and UK arrives as other companies are navigating the complexities of operating in the region following Brexit and evolving data regulations. Aegon, a Dutch multinational life insurance, pensions and asset management company, announced on February 19, 2026, its intention to sell approximately 12.5 million shares in a.s.r., a Dutch insurer, through an accelerated placing, a move potentially influenced by shifting market conditions in Europe. First Quantum Minerals similarly announced a $1,350 million senior notes offering on the same date, signaling activity in global financial markets.
Separately, Alvotech, a biosimilar company, has secured a settlement agreement for its biosimilar to Eylea® 2mg in global markets and a UK High Court ruling has favored Alvotech, paving the way for the manufacture and market entry of AVT06, also a biosimilar to Eylea® (aflibercept). These developments highlight ongoing activity within the pharmaceutical sector, but are not directly related to Yahoo! JAPAN’s service withdrawal.
Yahoo Japan’s decision follows a similar move by Yahoo Japan to discontinue services in Europe, as reported by The Verge on February 19, 2026.
