The SPW recommends “remaining cautious near areas of concentration of rain, small rivers, and at the head of the basin”.

Yellow alert in Flanders

In the north of the country, in West Flanders, the provincial crisis management plan was activated due to the showers announced by the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). “We expect intense precipitation during the night from Thursday to Friday, which could cause the Yser catchment area to overflow,” commented the firefighters.

At the end of Thursday afternoon, the IRM also indicated that a yellow alert was in effect in West Flanders, from this Thursday at 5 p.m. It will end on Friday at the same time. “Over the next 24 hours, precipitation could lead to a total of 10 to 25 or 30 mm / 24 hours over part of the province of West Flanders (around a quarter of its surface). This is therefore a borderline case for a yellow vigilance but the problems already present in the Westhoek come into consideration”, explained the IRM.
