The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a yellow high tide warning which will be in effect from 10pm to 1am.

The combination of strong wind gusts of up to 75 or 80 km/h with a high tide of 5.60 meters might lead to temporary flooding of seaside sea walls and piers.

In Blankenberge, access to the Belgium Pier, a 350 meter long pier, will be closed from Friday evening, as will the Oosterstaketsel, a wooden footbridge on which the brewery of the same name is located. The access points surrounding the port will also be closed.

“A strong northwest current, combined with high tides, causes a rise in sea water and strong waves. Our services place Nadar barriers to ensure your safety,” explains the mayor of Blankenberge Björn Prasse (Open VLD).

Similar measures will also apply in Ostend, where access to the breakwaters will be prohibited from Friday followingnoon. The ferry service is also not operating.
