It’s a dark day for ska fans.

It was on August 16 of the year of our Lord 2022 that the legendary Quebec ska group announced its end.

In a message posted on social networks, its founder Stéphane Yelle explains what led to the dissolution of the group which had a huge success at the turn of the millennium.

“I am announcing to you today that Yelo Molo is no more. We’ve been trying to get a single song to CKOI or Énergie for more than a decade, who hold the monopoly on airplay in Quebec. But for them, the Danny Champagne, formerly Guy Brouillard, the JP Lemelin of this pretty world of diffusion which has the right of life or death on the Quebec formations, a song is always too much like before or not enough. anyway.”

In the message, Yelle criticizes the main commercial radio stations in Quebec for ignoring the group’s music.

“I’ve been telling people for more than 10 years that Yelo still exists and people tell us: ‘No, we thought it was over, because we don’t hear you anymore.’ Well, if you couldn’t hear us anymore, it wasn’t our fault. There are always limits to play Sabrina pis Big Zero, bonyenne. From today, it’s true, we no longer existed! It is now our decision, but against our will.”

However, Yelle takes the time to thank the “friends” of the group who have always been there over the years.

“I never say to “fans”, because that is fanaticism and I know that nobody is fanatic or very little in Quebec. Thank you to our friends who came to encourage us many times in all the festivals of Quebec, you made us live very beautiful unforgettable moments. I have always been naively positive, but here I lay down my guitar, sad but calm.

Formed in 1997 in Sainte-Julienne in Lanaudière, the group released its album Dubai earlier this year.

Many nostalgic music lovers will surely note that very few bands were able to raise a party like Yelo Molo.
