Yordan Álvarez’s Three-Run Homer Leads Astros to Victory over Guardians

HOUSTON — Yordan Álvarez hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put Houston ahead after Noah Syndergaard left his Cleveland debut with an injury and the Astros beat the Guardians 7-3. on Monday.

JP France pitched seven solid innings for Houston, which moved within a half-game of the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.

Cleveland fell one game below .500 and one game behind Minnesta, leader of the weak AL Central. Hours earlier, the Guardians sent starter Aaron Civale to Tampa Bay for a prospect in the outfield.

Syndergaard, who arrived last week in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowed two hits and Cleveland led 2-0 when he walked Jose Altuve to start the sixth.

France (7-3) allowed seven hits and two runs in seven innings for its fifth straight victory.

For the Guardians, Venezuelans Andrés Giménez 5-0, Gabriel Arias 4-3 with a run scored. The Dominican José Ramírez 3-1.
