The mobile telephone market is experiencing relative price stability, following the stabilization of the price of the dollar below 50 pounds and the disappearance of the parallel market in which the price of the dollar reached 70 pounds.
The Central Bank of Egypt decided in early March to let the pound sterling exchange rate be determined based on market mechanisms, which saw a decline in the price of the dollar and the disappearance of the parallel market due to foreign cash flows resulting from the Ras El Hekma Agreement and approval by the International Monetary Fund of a new financing loan to Egypt.
The current time and circumstances are considered favorable for purchasing a new phone, according to Walid Ramadan, board member of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and vice president of the chamber’s mobile and communications division .
Ramadan told Masrawy that if the consumer is making the decision to buy a new phone, now is the right time to make that decision.
He explained that replacing one phone with another depends on the budget available to the consumer, noting at the same time the drop in the price of used devices due to the drop in prices of new phones, which makes it an option separate for those who are about to buy.
Regarding his opinion on buying a phone with 4G technology or a phone with 5G technology, Ramadan said that it depends on the consumer’s budget.
He advised consumers who want to change their smartphones on a regular or annual basis not to rush to upgrade to phones equipped with fifth generation technology now.
It is estimated that customers who replace their smartphones every period of more than two years should strive to replace their devices with devices that support fifth generation technology.
Ramadan attributed this to the increasing diffusion of fifth generation services in the coming years, which will make it an important feature that users want on their phones.
Telecom Egypt launched 5G services on a trial basis in several areas of Cairo last January, after securing licenses to provide 5G services for $150 million over 15 years.
In recent months, we have seen a trend of customers purchasing mobile devices with an international warranty due to their lower price than their counterparts in the local market.
The mobile phone market in Egypt saw a significant decline in sales for more than a year until last March, due to the limited supply of devices due to import difficulties and the availability of dollars in banks at that time, which caused a significant drop in sales. increase in prices of devices available on the market because traders rely on the dollar price on the parallel market to determine device prices.
