It was predicted that the whole country would be mostly cloudy, with heavy rain and strong winds in the center of Jeju Island, the southern coast, and the vicinity of Mt. Jirisan. In most regions, the highest sensible temperature is around 31 degrees, and there are many places where tropical nights appear overnight.

☞Today’s health = Due to the heat wave, many people reduce their outdoor activities and fall into the world of smartphones indoors. Increasing dependence on smartphones can lead to various addictions and diseases. Smartphone syndrome is the appearance of physical and psychological diseases due to prolonged use of smartphones.

Typical smartphone syndromes include dry eye syndrome and decreased visual acuity. If you focus on a small screen for a long time, the number of blinks decreases, which increases the evaporation of tears and makes your eyes stiff. In particular, if your vision is cloudy, your eyes are often red, and you feel a foreign body in your eyes, you can suspect dry eye syndrome. Looking at a smartphone for a long time in a shaky bus, in a car, or in a dark bedroom can deteriorate your eyesight.

Looking at the smartphone from a position lower than eye level can cause turtle neck syndrome. When you bow your head for a long time, your neck muscles cannot support the weight of your head and the C-curve collapses. Neck, shoulder, and back pain along with numbness in the hands may also appear.

If you frequently watch videos on your smartphone while wearing earphones or headsets, noise-induced hearing loss may occur. In particular, when listening to music or watching a video in a place where there is everyday noise such as a subway, the sound is raised, which stimulates the hearing even more. If the other person’s voice sounds like a mumble or if you keep turning up the TV volume, suspect noise-induced hearing loss.

One of the things we frequently check on our smartphones is SNS. When you see other people’s joyful and happy appearances on social media, you may feel relatively deprived and fall into depression. Anxiety, lethargy, and distraction may appear.

To prevent smartphone syndrome, keep your head straight when using it and be careful not to look close. Set a time for use, turn off the lights before going to bed, and do not use your smartphone. On weekends when I’m with my family, I put all my smartphones in drawers and don’t use them.
