The decision to postpone the men’s Olympic triathlon by one day and the once again extraordinary communication from World Triathlon about the ‘weather conditions’ have caused bad blood among many triathletes. Marten Van Riel lashes out at the international triathlon federation in a response to the Instagram post of World Triathlon. “You consider us as puppets in a puppet show!” World Triathlon has since removed the comments from their Instagram post! We have asked Team Belgium for a response, but they are not giving any more interviews for the time being.

Marten Van Riel’s reaction is no joke and is also receiving a lot of support, with more than 800 likes and many reactions. “If the health of the athletes had been a priority, this event would have been moved to another location a long time ago. We are just puppets in a puppet show. Duathlon is not a triathlon and changing it to day in the middle of the night is disrespectful to the years of preparation of the athletes and to all our fans who would be watching live or on TV. What a sight for triathlon on the biggest stage,” says Marten.
