Young Vikings lost their 2-0 lead

“It hurts a lot,” said Stefan Offenzeller, coach of the Junge Vikings after the 2-2 draw in the Regionalliga Mitte game against Kalsdorf. Rieder took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute thanks to a remarkable long-range shot by Junior Diomande. At this point it was quite flattering, as the guests from Styria clearly set the tone in the first half and failed several times due to the excellent JW goalkeeper Jonas Wendlinger.

The Rieders presented themselves completely differently in the second half. After the 2-0 win by the German Robin Ungerath, who moved to Ried from Burghausen in the winter, the home team had everything under control. Nicolas Zdichynec made it possible for the Kalsdorfers to score the goal through Jason Appiah with a fatal bad pass. In the 87th minute it was Appiah again who scored the late equalizer for Kalsdorfer.

“It was a balanced game with chances for both sides. Unfortunately we failed to make it 3-0 in the second half,” said coach Offenzeller. The JW are eleventh in the table. Rieder will be playing away in Treibach next weekend. Union Gurten will start the spring season with a home game against Hertha Wels on Saturday, March 5th. Start is at 2 p.m.

In the Upper Austrian league yesterday afternoon, the Friedburg/Pöndorf syndicate had no chance against third-placed Oedt after a clear 4-1 defeat.
