YouTube Music gains miniplayer with AirPlay and swipe controls

After Android’s turn in June came the time when YouTube Music was updated with a permanent miniplayer with AirPlay removing the “next song” option to introduce swipe controls on iPhone and iPad.

Now, there is the same menu that previously appeared in the top right corner of the screen, which is now cleaner, just with the search shortcut and the account avatar. The player controls have also been moved to the right.

The functionality boost is the ability to swipe right or left to the next and previous song. This last action was not previously possible.

Lastly, you can’t swipe down in the miniplayer to clear your queue. To do this, open “Now Playing” and go to the overflow menu, which continues to grow, to “dismiss queue” at the top (instead of at the bottom on Android).

This is more complicated than before and less instantaneous. The “nothing is playing” message will appear when there is no active audio, such as following restarting an application. The changes began arriving to users through a server update with version 6.20 of YouTube Music.
