YouTube prohibits users from blocking ads, even with blocking apps

YouTube is testing the possibility of disabling access to videos for users who use ad-blocking applications, the Android Authority reported on Friday.

“We’re running a small experiment globally encouraging viewers with ad blockers to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium,” a company spokesperson said.

The platform claims that it takes disabling video playback “very seriously”, which would only be activated when users repeatedly ignore the three preventive ads it will display on the screen.

“Ad blocker detection is not new, and other publishers regularly ask viewers to disable ad blockers,” the spokesperson said.
