Justice Minister Alma Zadić is running in the National Council election as the Green Party’s top candidate in Vienna. The state list will be finalized at a state meeting on April 27th. There will be no further candidacy for first place there, as the Greens informed the APA. The party event also includes the re-election of the top duo of the Vienna state party.

Zadić has headed the justice department since the Greens entered the government in 2020. “In 2017, I took the step into politics in order to give back to society what I had received – opportunities,” emphasized the Bosnian-born woman in a statement sent to the APA. As a minister, she fights every day for fair coexistence and an independent constitutional state. “Vienna is particularly close to my heart as the city in which I grew up.” She wants to work to ensure that every child has the same opportunities, regardless of their parents’ origin, religion or wealth.

“We are particularly pleased that Justice Minister Alma Zadić is running for the National Council at the top of the Vienna state list. Vienna, as the largest Austrian state organization, will make an important contribution to the National Council election. We are looking forward to a successful election campaign with Alma Zadić and our federal spokesman, Vice Chancellor and top candidate Werner Kogler,” the Viennese party leaders Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus paid tribute to the first on the list. Zadić stands for an independent judiciary and is a guarantee that no more cases will be “daschlog’n” in Austria. During her term in office, the judicial budget was increased by 50 percent, she also brought down official secrecy and paved the way for freedom of information.

The list will be sealed at a state meeting on April 27th. Voting takes place again in blocks, namely first place, then places two to five and then places five to twelve. There is no opposing candidate for the first place on the list. In the meantime, the Greens have replaced the voting procedure with another one, namely the “single transferable vote” system. This does not involve voting in blocks. Now you return to the original mode.

The party leadership also votes. Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus are running again for the leadership of the Vienna Greens. The duo has held this position since autumn 2021.
