Zara Larsson has found herself in “bizarre situations” since her early days in the music industry.

The 25-year-old Swedish pop star explained that while sexism can happen anywhere, she was “lucky” to have a good team around her and tries to surround herself with women to feel “protected”.

She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I think it happens everywhere when you’re a young girl and you’re working. I was lucky to have a good team around me. I try to surround myself with a lot of women, really. I feel like I’ve been really protected because I’ve always had my mom with me or someone in the studio with me. But I found myself in weird situations, unfortunately, and now I’m even pickier about who I want to work with.”

The ‘Can’t Tame Her’ singer added that because of her legacy and the artists who came before her, it’s been “incredible” for her to make a career out of writing pop music.

She added: “A lot of people before me paved the way for pop music, but it’s amazing to be Swedish and do pop. Sometimes people look at you funny, but when I say that I am Swedish and that I do pop, they are surprised and say: “You know what you are doing!”
