Zelenskyy: Ukraine Ready to Stop Energy Strikes if Russia Does

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during a nightly video address that Ukraine is prepared to reciprocate a cessation of Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure.

The proposal establishes a conditional framework for a localized ceasefire targeting the power grid. According to Zelenskyy, the willingness to stop attacks on energy assets is contingent upon a corresponding commitment from the Russian Federation to halt its own strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities.

Energy Infrastructure Stakes

The focus on energy infrastructure follows a pattern of systemic targeting of power plants and electrical grids. The proposal seeks to mitigate the impact of these strikes, which have historically targeted the stability of the national power supply.

By framing the offer as a reciprocal arrangement, the Ukrainian presidency is linking the security of its civilian energy sector to a specific Russian policy shift. The statement identifies the cessation of these strikes as a prerequisite for a mutual agreement to avoid further damage to the energy grid.

The Russian government has not issued a formal response to this specific offer of reciprocal restraint regarding energy infrastructure.
