Xbox bought Bethesda for a unique reason… According to the boss of Xbox, the takeover was motivated by the fact that Sony signed a lot of contracts with publishers so that they wouldn’t release their games on Xbox. For example, Deathloop et Ghostwire TokyoBethesda’s last two games before Redfall landed on Xbox only a year after the release on PlayStation.
When we acquired ZeniMax, one of the reasons for the acquisition was that Sony made a deal for Deathloop and Ghostwire… to pay Bethesda not to ship those games to Xbox. We can’t find ourselves in a position where, as a third-tier console, we fall even further behind in content ownership, and so we’ve had to secure content to remain viable in this space.
