“The moon thirty years ago has long since sunk, and the people thirty years ago are dead, but the story thirty years ago is not over yet – it can never be over.” 24-year-old Zhang Ailing wrote “The Story of the Golden Lock”, 2004 In 2008, the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center invited Wang Anyi to help write the script. Wang Anyi said: “I like “The Story of the Golden Lock” very much. If I want to change it, I just want to change it.”
This version of the play was performed in Hong Kong and was seen by Jiao Yuan, known as the “Queen of Hong Kong Stage Drama”. She asked Anhua Hui to cooperate with her troupe. Xu Anhua is a film maker. She filmed “Love in a Fallen City” in 1984 and “Half a Lifetime” in 1997. This is her first time directing a play. So the audience saw a work like this: the original author, director, screenwriter, and starring actors were all outstanding female artists in various fields.
