After President Tsai took office, Zhang Zhongmou has represented Taiwan as the APEC leader representative many times, including Papua New Guinea in 2018, Chile in 2019, Malaysia in 2020, and New Zealand in 2021. Among them, Chile canceled the annual meeting in 2019 due to political factors, and in 2020 and 2021, due to the impact of the epidemic, the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting was held by video.

In addition, Zhang Zhongmou also attended the APEC meeting on behalf of former President Chen Shui-bian in 2006.

This year’s APEC is hosted by Thailand. This is the third year after PNG in 2018. It has once again held an economic leaders’ meeting in a physical form. Taiwan will also send a delegation to Thailand to attend a series of related meetings.
