On Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 April, the final tournament of the 16th year of the Vlastislav Mareček Memorial will take place in Zlín. The teams Zbrojovka Brno, Slavia Praha, Sparta Praha and Teplice are fighting for the championship in the tournament intended for players under the age of sixteen.
Last year’s winner of the Vlastislav Mareček Memorial was the footballers of Slavia Prague, who beat Sparta relatively clearly 3:1 at the main stadium in Teplice. Olomouc football players finished third, and the fourth place went to players from Viktoria Plzeň.
This year’s tournament was played using the same system as in previous years. In the beginning, more than 30 teams participated in the tournament. The top sixteen advanced to four semi-final groups of four teams each. The winners of the individual groups then qualified for the final tournament, which will take place this year in Zlín.
Group A was unequivocally dominated by Zbrojovka Brno footballers, who scored sixteen points for five wins and one draw from six matches. Zbrojovka lost the only points in the match against Dynamo České Budějovice, which paradoxically won just this one point and finished in last place in the group. Pardubice finished second (12 points) and Zlín third (6 points).
Group B was won by the 100% successful Slavia Praha, who also played the group with an extremely active score of 35:4. Second place was taken by Baník Ostrava (7 points), third was Dukla Prague (6) and fourth was Slovácko (4).
In Group C, Sparta Praha took first place. The latter collected a total of 13 points when they lost points to Pilsen (defeat 0:1) and Olomouc (1:1) during the group match. Olomouc finished second in Group C (8 points), Plzeň was third (7) and Opava fourth (6).
Group D was dominated by Teplice. Like Slavia in Group B, they did not hesitate once and won the full number of points with a score of 30:9. Second place in the group belonged to Hradec Králové (9 points), and third to Jihlava (9). The football players of MFK Vítkovice finished last, not losing a single point.
The final tournament of the Vlastislav Mareček Memorial will take place in Zlín this year and will be played in the same format as in previous years. On Wednesday, April 17, two semi-final duels will take place, and on Thursday, April 18, there will be matches for third place and then the final match. It will take place at the main stadium of FC Zlín on Letná, and the course of the match will be able to be watched as a video transmission on tvcom.cz and also directly on fotbal.cz.
