Zoom has rolled out an update to its Mac app to fix a bug that could be causing privacy issues for users. As noted by 9to5Mac, a company representative responded to a post on the Zoom community forums by a user who noted that their microphone indicator was on even when they weren’t in a meeting — they had the Zoom client open at the time. Upon reaching the Control Center, they discovered that Zoom was accessing the private microphone
also.
The original poster wasn’t the only one airing his complaint on the forum, and several commenters said they noticed the same thing. In the company’s response, the representative said Zoom for Mac version 5.9.3 solves an issue where “an orange indicator light can continue to appear after leaving a meeting, call, or webinar.” The delegate advises users to update their apps
To correct the error and run automatic updates for future versions as soon as they appear.
Zoom has had some serious privacy issues in the past, including telling users that their meetings are protected with end-to-end encryption since 2016. In fact, it only started rolling out the feature in 2020, and the company had to settle with the FTC about its privacy practices. . .
