Zorba’s Coney Island Crash in Detroit

WILD surveillance video captured the moment a high-speed car crashed through the front window of a fast food restaurant in Michigan on Saturday, sending panicked customers flying.

The frightening incident took place at Zorba’s Coney Island in the Lasalle College Park neighborhood of Detroit just before 1 p.m. on New Years Day.

Remarkably, no one was seriously injured in the crash, a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said in a statement.

The cause of the accident remains uncertain.

Police are investigating the incident as a hit and run after the SUV driver and a passenger fled the scene, Deputy Chief Rudy Harper said. No arrests have yet been made.

Surveillance footage captured outside the restaurant shows a gray SUV turning towards the parking lot.

Suddenly, the SUV accelerates, slipping between two parked cars and crashing through Zorba’s window.

‘HIT AND RUN’

The truck driver eventually backs up. He then gets out of the vehicle and begins to walk away from the scene in the opposite direction.

Passers-by are seen confronting the driver as his passenger climbs into the driver’s seat and reverses the SUV further.

Meanwhile, the driver is seen pacing past the restaurant, at one point appearing to put his hands on his head in disbelief.

Footage captured inside the restaurant at the time of impact, which was first shared on Twitter by HuffPo’s Phil Lewis, shows stunned customers and workers clamoring for their safety as the truck slams through the window.

A man is thrown by the car from a cab into a control window, but remarkably escapes serious injury and is able to get up and run to safety.

At least three other customers appeared to have been struck by the car and a pile of rubble that followed.

‘WORRIING’

The screams and screams of workers and customers can be heard as the car backs out of the storefront.

A woman who was trapped between the car and the control window is seen banging on the window to ask for help.

In a statement, Harper called the chain of events “disturbing” to WXYZ.

“The video is disturbing and disturbing to say the least,” he said.

“The suspects clearly have no respect for human life and must do the right thing and surrender to authorities immediately. “

The Detroit Police Department has been contacted for further information.
