Żory Viaduct Construction on Schedule for Year-End Completion

Construction of a new viaduct over Dworcowa Street in Żory, Poland, is proceeding on schedule, with completion anticipated later this year. The project, which began in August 2025, aims to eliminate a level crossing and improve traffic flow in the area.

The viaduct will span the railway lines between Żory and Strumień, as well as those connecting Żory to Pszczyna, according to PKP Polish Railway Lines. The structure is similarly being designed to accommodate pedestrian and bicycle traffic, enhancing accessibility for local residents.

The construction is being carried out by Budimex, as part of an ongoing investment on the Pszczyna-Żory railway line. The project includes not only the viaduct itself but also a new roundabout at the intersection of Dworcowa, Mikołowska, Leśna, Piaskowa, and Fabryczna streets. This roundabout is intended to further streamline traffic and reduce congestion.

The commencement of construction necessitated changes to traffic patterns and public transportation routes in Żory. Local authorities have implemented detours and adjusted bus schedules to minimize disruption during the building phase. The long-awaited project is expected to significantly improve safety at the intersection of the road and railway tracks, as well as enhance overall local connectivity.

The investment is being funded through Poland’s National Reconstruction Plan (Krajowy Plan Odbudowy). The project addresses a longstanding require for a grade separation at this key railway crossing, a concern repeatedly voiced by residents.
