Zwölferhorn near St. Gilgen: dam ordered due to landslide

Due to a landslide, the road to the Illingerberg near St. Gilgen in Flachgau is closed indefinitely. This also applies to the hiking trail on the Zwölferhorn.

At St. Gilgen, in the Illingerberg Alm area below the Zwölferhorn, a slope measuring around eight hectares has started to slide. Both the road to the Illingerberg and the hiking trail to the Zwölferhorn are closed indefinitely, according to the municipality’s website.

“The masses move regarding 20 meters in twelve hours. The forest road is endangered, trees fall over. That’s why we decided, in agreement with the authorities, to block the whole valley in there,” said Mayor Otto Kloiber (ÖVP) on ORF Quoted from Radio Salzburg. Every 50 to 60 years, the slope begins to slide, this time it was “a really big event,” the mayor continued.
