President Yoon attended the opening ceremony of the UCLG General Assembly held in Daejeon on the same day and said, “The government has selected the local era, where people enjoy fair opportunities wherever they live, as a national task and is doing their best to achieve it.” UCLG is the only international intergovernmental organization recognized by the United Nations, with 240,000 local governments from 140 countries and 175 related organizations. As the General Assembly was held for the first time in Korea, President Yoon also attended the meeting for the first time as a Korean president.

President Yoon said, “The competitiveness of local governments is the national competitiveness and the source driving force that drives the growth of the country. will,” he emphasized. He also said, “The pandemic, health, and climate change crises facing the international community are demanding not only solidarity between countries but also stronger solidarity between local governments,” he said. At this meeting, President Yoon re-emphasized the strengthening of cooperation between the central and local governments, referring to the fact that the ‘Central Local Cooperation Conference’ held in Ulsan on the 7th was held. The Central Regional Cooperation Council is the so-called ‘Second State Council’ as the highest decision-making body related to regional policy, attended by the president and 17 provincial and provincial governors.
