The next topic is US semiconductor subsidies. This is becoming a hot potato right now. After hearing this news, I thought that the United States is eating fleas’ livers.

Because to receive subsidies from the US government, companies must present all their accounting books and all excess profits, which seems to be the content. What should our companies do?

[홍기빈]

Before we even thought about our companies, there were these concerns about this law. The US says it will subsidize, but nothing is free in the world.

I was anxious and alert about what conditions would come out, but if you look at the conditions listed, if this is a joke, isn’t the US almost trying to create a semi-constructed company, foreign companies investing in the US? that kind of thing comes out.

If you look at each one, first of all, if you see an excess profit, you should report it at the beginning. If you report your projected earnings and earn more than that, you must return your subsidy up to 75%.

[앵커]

Doesn’t that mean they take almost everything, the excess profit?

[홍기빈]

Then, in areas where there is a need for military security, subsidies will be given preferentially to companies that disclose all production facilities, confidential information, and even research data. However, this is a very sensitive part of semiconductors.

I’m talking about making this public. The next biggest problem is the guardrail part. There is a content that says China should not expand production or invest in semiconductor parts for the next 10 years. This is a very serious problem, especially for Korean companies.

[앵커]

There are some things that are not important, but if you look at them one by one, if the subsidized company posts a higher-than-expected profit, up to 75% of the excess profit will be returned. I wonder if this is a position where the bear plays tricks and the US takes the money, but from the point of view of a company, this is not a public company like you said. Aren’t you taking too much profit? I think there is no choice but to come out of the company’s point of view.

[홍기빈]

In Korea, too, there was talk of the sharing of excess profits, and then there was a counterargument that it was capitalism, so it was a problem in Korea for a long time, but now we are doing the same thing. But now, the amount of money is also the amount, but the more important part is the sensitive part.

I’m going to go through all the books to see exactly how the excess earnings show up, the Secretary of Commerce said. However, from a company’s point of view, especially in sensitive companies such as semiconductors, if the excess profits are revealed in the books, eventually all corporate activities will be revealed transparently.

So it seems that this part can be said to be a more sensitive part. From the US point of view, I joked that it is a semi-constructed company earlier, but I think there is an intention to control and manage the production value chain surrounding semiconductors from the perspective of the US national interest.

[앵커]

That’s the dark side. In fact, technology is the core of the semiconductor field. That’s what’s important. That’s how fierce the technology competition is, and we can all know that we want to look into this part. However, it seems that the situation is not cool with words.
