[국제]Grain prices soaring again and again…”But for us, it’s an opportunity, not a crisis”

[앵커]

Global agricultural prices are rising day by day.

This is because the aftermath of the Ukrainian War overlapped with the rapid climate change that directly targeted the global village.

However, there are those who use this crisis as an opportunity.

This is the report by Lee Seung-hoon.

Italy’s lifeline exposes an empty floor.

It is because of the ‘worst drought’ that has come in 70 years.

The country depends on this river for a third of its agricultural production.

There is a bigger problem.

As the river water is low, the sea water flows backwards, and even this precious water cannot be used on the surrounding rice fields at all.

It looked like it was planted a few days ago, but blue shoots are already sprouting in the wide wheat field.

The Australian farmer, who has been farming here for 5 generations, is looking forward to the coming fall.

Oil prices have risen, but grain prices have risen a lot, so even after all these things are removed, it seems like it’s going to be a ‘pretty good year’.

It is ‘China’ who prepared this ‘golden time’ in advance.

There was enough water as it was, and above all, technology-intensive farming is effective, and the harvest continues for several years.

Of course, the most generous support from the Chinese government was the greatest.

This year alone, 30 billion yuan, or more than 5.5 trillion won of our money, has already been released to farmers in the name of ‘subsidy’.

Meanwhile, competitiveness has grown to the point where they don’t care much about the ‘global food crisis’, and the dependence on imports for ‘wheat’, which has skyrocketed by more than 60% in one year, is only 2.9%.

We are the world’s 5th largest ‘grain importer’ with a self-sufficiency rate of only 0.5% of wheat.
