After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Japan is taking action with the United States and the European Union.

Economic sanctions were swiftly implemented not only against Russia, which had invaded, but also against Belarus, which is helping Russia.

In addition, we are prepared to raise the level of sanctions against Russia, including suspending most-favored-nation treatment.

Japan is making sharp remarks day after day, urging China to “act responsibly” even to China, which is a supporter of Russia.

Amid the new Cold War structure in which the United States and Europe and Russia and China are in conflict, Japan is concentrating on increasing its voice in the international community.

With this incident as an opportunity, the Japanese government announced its long-cherished desire to advance into a permanent member of the UN Security Council in earnest.

The cause is to reform the United Nations.

Prime Minister Kishida criticized Russia’s exercise of veto power as a permanent member of the Board of Directors, so even a resolution calling for an immediate withdrawal was not passed, and criticized the state as ‘functionally dysfunctional’.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government, which is emphasizing its willingness to fight back, has proposed President Zelensky’s video address to the Japanese National Assembly.

If successful, it is expected to be held as early as next week, and it is expected to appeal to the international community for support along with criticism of Russia.
