Asia’s largest car racing event, the Grand Prix, and a food festival were held in Macau.
Corona 19 quarantine regulations are still in place, but the city, including the Korean commercial district, is full of energy with a large-scale festival that has been held for a long time.
Reporter Choi Joon-hyeok captured the scene.

Racing cars emitting a powerful engine sound!
This year marks the 69th anniversary of the ‘Macau Grand Prix’.
As it is a competition with a high degree of difficulty by using the roads in the city as it is as a circuit, the tension among the participants as well as the audience increases.

Macau is still maintaining a ‘zero corona’ policy, so this year, the game was held without foreign participants except for the Chinese region.
All visitors must present a COVID-19 negative certificate received within 48 hours,
Participants followed strict quarantine rules, such as receiving PCR tests every day at the inspection station at the entrance during the competition.
[차오기 / 중국 참가자 : 매일 코로나19 PCR 검사를 받아야 하고, 선수들이 방역 수칙을 잘 지키며 마스크도 잘 썼기 때문에 안전한 경기 환경이 마련됐다고 생각합니다.]
A few days later, the streets of Macau, where the heat of the Grand Prix has not gone away, were filled with delicious food this time.
It is a ‘food festival’ where you can taste the food of Macau’s best eateries, from street food to century-old establishments to Michelin-starred restaurants.
In the midst of all the food from all over the world, a booth introducing Korean food has been set up and is gaining great popularity.
Hallyu fans continued to visit the Korean food booth selling representative foods such as tteokbokki, gimbap, and japchae.

Korean restaurant officials, who are having a hard time with the long-standing zero-corona policy, have regained their vitality through the festival.
[이현미 / 한식당 운영 : 한국 음식을 많은 분께 소개할 수도 있고 여기에 계시는 마카오 분들이 한국 음식을 많이 좋아하세요. 그러나 코로나 방역으로 축제에 참여하는 (사람들은) 매일 PCR 검사를 받아야 하는 게 많이 힘든 상황이죠.]
The Macau Grand Prix and Food Festival, which were hard to find foreign tourists this year under strict quarantine rules.
Next year, I hope to go back to the way it was before COVID-19 and regain the reputation of a tourist city visited by about 30 million tourists every year.
